Hand-colored quarter-plate daguerreotype in leather case of William Emerson (1801-1868), brother of Ralph Waldo Emerson. He was also a lawyer and judge in the state of New York. The photograph was taken ca. 1851-1853 by Marcus Aurelius Root and Samuel Root of New York, N.Y.
